Pine

Pine is the most commonly used wood across the US. It varies in grain and has dark knots. Pine wood is usually yellow but sometimes result in a light brown color. If you are trying to achieve a rustic look, pine is a great wood to go with.

  • Recommended for dining tables, barn doors, accent tables. 

 

Ash

Ash is one of the most durable wood species and commonly used for furniture. It has a straight grain and absorbs wood stains well. Ash is beige or light brown and is very shock resistant.

  • Recommended for dining tables, coffee tables, side tables.

 

Oak

Also very common in the US. Oak has rings and straight grains. There are few knots, but there are unusual pattern that give a unique character to a piece.

Poplar

Poplar is white with a slight yellow/green hue. The grain is straight and uniform. Poplar is also a porous wood allowing stain to absorb well.

  • Most commonly used for doors, cabinetry, drawers and furniture framing.

 

Cedar

Cedar is is a red to pinkish brown with random streaks or red/brown areas. It has a straight grain and medium to coarse texture. With time, cedar will darken.

  • Can be used for outdoor and indoor furniture.

 

Knotty Alder

When freshly cut, Alder is almost white, but quickly changes color once it is exposed to air.  It becomes a light brown with a yellow or reddish hue. Alder has a fairly straight grain ​and is great for rustic furniture.

Mahogany

There are a few types of Mahogany wood, most are a burgundy to light golden brown color, with grain that is interlocked and a medium fine texture.

Teak

Teak grain is straight, it can occasionally be wavy or interlocked. this wood is a golden to medium brown and becomes darker with age. Teak is the most decay resistant wood when put outdoors.

Maple

There are a few types of Maple wood. They range in color from white to dark brown. The grain is usually straight. Maple has high resistance to abrasion and wear.

Walnut
